About Connections
Sometimes personal issues keep young people from participating in education or training. For some, the list of obstacles can seem endless:
- homelessness
- disability
- mental health issues
- limited or no parental support
- parenting or other responsibilities as a carer
- substance abuse or misuse
- physical, sexual or emotional abuse
- juvenile justice orders
- current or prior detention
Connections is available to help these young people face such barriers, and get back in touch with their learning and their future.
Who can Connections Help?
Connections can help young people aged 13 to 19 years who have been out of main stream schooling for at least 3 consecutive months.
Participants must also be:
- an Australian citizen or permanent resident
- face substantial barriers to re-engaging with education
- not have completed year 12 or vocational equilivants
- not be in training or full-time employment
- need intensive, individualises assistance
- need a supportive and flexible environment to re-engage with study, training or work
How can Connections help?
Connections staff work one-to one with each young person to assess their needs ana develop a a plan for the future.
The goal is to :
- identify their, goals and career options
- find ways to overcome any barriers to learning
- get involved in flexible and accredited training
- increase their life and employability skills
