Adopt a School

The Adopt a School program provides young people with hands-on learning in a specific industry.

It brings schools, students and local businesses together to complete a useful project. A project is normally completed within a school term or year—while some last only a few days. Many projects benefit the school and/or your community or region. And all projects give the young people more knowledge and skills in a particular industry.

Another plus is that all participants learn more about each other and how they can help one another in future. Businesses learn how to work with schools and with today’s young people. Students and schools learn more about career pathways and the skills employers want.

Parents and teachers can get involved directly, too. When they know more about current options, they are better prepared to help young people make career decisions.

Structured Workplace Learning

Structured Workplace Learning puts young people in school into real work in a real workplace (and sometimes in a simulated workplace).

These work placements are full of bonuses. For example:

  • Students find out what it’s like in the real working world.
  • Students increase their technical and employability skills.
  • Students may gain an actual qualification (depends on the placement) that is recognised by industry and education systems throughout Australia.

Career Transition Support

The Career and Transition Support program helps your school to prepare you for the move through school and on to further study, training or work.

For this program, Local Community Partnerships assess the information and opportunities already being delivered in your community. They then look for ways to help schools and youth providers to build on and improve these services.

Career and Transition Support activities that might take place in your community include:
